This partially paved trail is family-friendly and runs the length of the Battle Road Unit of Minute Man National Historical Park. It passes by many historical buildings. Accessibility: There is one designated accessible space in the paved parking lot off of Lexington Road at the west end of the trail. It is van-accessible with a striped access aisle. The trail surface is pavement (with partial edge barriers), gravel, or a natural surface, and typically at least 4 feet wide. The estimated grade is mostly gentle (5% or less) except for moderately steep (5-8%) sections at about 1.0 miles uphill and 4.4 miles uphill when going eastbound. Hikers using wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers may need assistance in the steeper sections or to avoid them for safety. All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the surface type and grade. There are benches and picnic tables along the route for resting. According to the park website, there are wheelchair-accessible bathrooms in the park and the Minute Man and North Bridge Visitor Centers are wheelchair-accessible.
Map LinkWhile Billerica State Forest is a relatively small 370 acres DCR property divided by roads into three parcels, it has fast become a local gem for mountain biking, trail running and hiking. Since there are currently no designated parking lots, most riders access BSF from Russell Mill Town Forest in Chelmsford. However, there is limited parking on the side of Rangeway Road, next to Rte 3. The Gilson Hill side of BSF contains the majority of the high quality and exceptionally fun singletrack trails.
Map LinkWith more than 7,000 acres to explore, the Blue Hills Reservation is great for mountain biking. Challenge yourself on rocky terrain or coast along level ground — just make sure you look out for other outdoor enthusiasts.
Map LinkThe 250 acres of land is named the “Landlocked Forest” because of its location between Routes 62, 3, and 128 in Burlington, and conservation land in Bedford and Lexington. Bulrington residents and others may access it from the parking lot on Turning Mill Road in Lexington. The property currently offers 13 miles of trails perfect for walking, trail running, bicycling, dog walking, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Map LinkThe best parking area for Cutler Park is located in Needham MA. But the park itself extends into Dedham, Newton, Brookline and Boston. Cutler park consists of a few hills and a lot of trails near an 800-acre marsh along the Charles River and beside route 128.
Map LinkGreat Brook State Park may be the best family mountain biking area in Massachusetts. The park has a variety of facilities for numerous activities. The park includes ample parking, a working dairy farm (and homemade ice cream stand), a duck pond, and even a sort of kiddie-zoo with a few barnyard animals. There's a variety of trails through meadows, around pastures, and through woods for hiking, biking, XC-skiing, and equestrian activities.
Map LinkThe DCR’s Harold Parker State Forest is in the towns of Andover, North Andover, Middleton and North Reading. With 3000+ acres, the Park has 51 miles of roads, old woods roads, double track and singletrack trails. The singletracks are some of the most enjoyable to be experienced in the region.
Map LinkEasy beginner/xc trails around the pond and some good ol' New England tech for advanced riders on the mountain.
Map LinkEvery local mountain biker should experience Lynn Woods! After living in the Boston Metro Area for three years, I have developed a list of thirty places within thirty minutes of the town of Arlington that I like to ride, some of them well known, many not known at all. Out of all of them, nothing is better than a day at Lynn Woods. Lynn Woods, as the name suggests, is nestled within the town of Lynn Massachusetts. For those who are unfamiliar with Lynn, it is a low income industrial town about ten miles northeast of Boston. If you were to drive through the somewhat run-down center of town you would never guess that you were close to best mountain biking Massachusetts and even New England has to offer.
Map LinkThe Middlesex Fells Reservation, more commonly known as The Fells, is located just seven miles north of Boston. The Fells is over 2600 acres in size, has over 120 miles of trails and is owned and managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Its reservoirs are water supplies for Winchester and the MWRA. For more information about the Middlesex Fells, visit the DCR's website.
Map LinkThe "other place" in Burlington. Generally when people think of riding in Burlington they obviously think of Land Locked Forest. Mill Pond is the ugly sister to LLF in that it's not as buffed out, pretty gnarly in parts and generally not ridden as much. It is totally worth checking out if you like a more technical ride compared to LLF and you don't want to see anyone else on your ride.
Map LinkThis area is one of 10 parcels of Open Space in Chelmsford, Ma. It is the largest of the 10 yet is still quite small by comparison to many of the areas we ride, coming in at 130 acres total. Total because approximately 12 acres is either under water in the form of a pond which can be used for fishing/canoeing, or taken up by the town's soccer fields. Keep in mind as you read this that although small, through the efforts of Merrimack Valley NEMBA, it rides bigger than expected.
Map LinkWompatuck State Park spans 3,526 acres of forest, streams and ponds. Offering an over 250 site campground, 12 miles of non-motorized roads and 40 miles of forest trails, the park is a great place to get into nature.

The Concord Minuteman Battle Road Trail Fun Ride is a great way to spend the afternoon learning about American History. This 20 mile ride is an easy effort for most folks, but I do consider this ride an Advance Beginner ride because of the distance. Half of this ride is on compressed dirt bike paths.
Map LinkStarts at Tyngsborough Elementary School, 205 Westford Road, Tyngsborough, MA. Use Route 3 Exit 34.
